04 august Caserta (ITALY)

The main characters of this inter rail with me: Luca (aka Roscio) and Sergio aka: Fighetto).

[Luca]: "This time we also have a new entry:  the “emo” tape recorder that will help us to catch all the sounds of this trip while we are living it!"

"Nothing can beat a train, especially before the diesel engines. A big monster that runs for valleys and gorges, crossing waterfalls, snowy mountains and rural roads run by wagon peasants. Travelling by train means to see the nature, people, cities, churches and rivers, the life, after all.

- Agatha Christie -

05 august Venezia (ITALY)

The inter rail starts, it's so good staying in this little train, many boys and girls full of life, free spirits, thirsty of new experiences, many races, cultures and different traditions…

While I am writing, a couple of Portuguese is playing cards, the Swedish next to me is playing crosswords, the guy from Chile in front of Roscio is listening to a Cd, the two American guys from Miami are reading ”Da Vinci Code”... A train, a journey… Many people together with the same aim.

This train goes direct to Athens...

[Ricardo Aguayor from Chile]: "Eres muy amable y amistoso, espero que tu viaje te llene de nuevas experiencias y que lo disfrutes intensamente"…

07 august Belgrade (SERBIA)

Yesterday, walking around the city center, we meet: Marija and Lepa and today they take us to a restaurant to taste some local food.

They pay the whole bill and we would never expect that.

Actually we also get ashamed when we had thought that the story of the restaurant would have been just a way to steal us some money (ndr as it happened to me in Cuba). But we were wrong.

A relaxing walk along “Ada” river was what we needed (just the parallel of the Danube)...

[Marija Marijanovic from Belgrado]: “Verujemo da cete doci ponovo da posetite grad u kome mi zivimo!”

(Live as if you have to die tomorrow, learn as if you have to live forever...!)

[Sergio]: "Here we live day by day! Every single moment can reserves us some nice situation or a special meeting… Cool!

There is a sun ray to light up a gloomy day here in Belgrade.

This morning it was raining very much and the city seemed enfolded, even more, in that veil of sadness and melancholy that you can see in the glances of her people…

No wonder, this is people who has lived a real war on their skin"…

[Luca]: "What about the kind-hearted of Marija, Ana, Lepa, Jovana etc…

We are the poor ones, the ones who see the "easy girl" behind some beautiful eyes, legs, breast or ass, then you find those girls who talk about the real suffering…

...and you can't help feeling "small", it's not pity: it's wonder, yes, I was looking at them with amazement because I feel that there is still a river of life to learn!"

09 august Skopije (MACEDONIA)

Incredible! When we stop anyone along the street for information, they always ask us what we are doing here…

They say there is nothing to visit here!

The night transfer Belgrade - Skopije has been really hard! Ten hours cramed in a dirty wagon surrounded by gipsies, thieves, shady people… We haven't slept a minute! Sergio has helped me at looking after our things, our backpacks… bad night!

The only good thing is that we could admire the local villages and train stations, all very characteristic… it seemed to me to watch an Italian movie of the 1940 or 1950.

10 august Skopije (MACEDONIA)

Skopije: a very gloomy city, sad, dirty and full of shady people who look at you up and down, a place forgotten by God… or Allah (it depends) considering that there are churches and mosques, everywhere, here!

[Luca]: "We have just visited our embassy to say hi to "a friend of a friend"; he has told us about a wonderful diplomatic life even if he is in Skopije; you work hard but it's worthwhile because you do it for your country, it's very exciting!"

After dinner we meet a group of guys and we spend some time hanging around with them; they talk about the difficult relationship with Albanian, the bad economic and political situation of their country and.

On the way back to our hotel, we hear the notes of an unmistakable song from an open piano bar! “Lasciatemi cantare” by Toto Cutugno; a real hymn which makes us miss our beloved Italy!

11 august Zagreb (CROATIA)

[Luca]: "We are on the train going to Zagreb, destination chosen as last minute as to mean: “I go everywhere but I want to leave this place…!”

The trains goes on…

it runs without giving a damn of anyone or anything… Whatever happens it goes!

Each inhabitant, at the window, watches astonished the Nature that rests! Little gipsies without shoes near the tracks are waiting for our crossing and, smiling, they greet us…it slows down a bit… but then it goes again… I admire the Yugoslavian world that runs in front of me, it seems an old movie…

Sometimes I think that we are very lucky to have the chance to live those moments, feelings that will be carved in our hearts forever, in our minds, in our souls!

Travelling is feeding of experiences always new and exciting… I can give a sense to this life only in this way! So I get mad: how can you lavish a such precious life dazzled by silly things… when I see those guys who only think about the most modern mobile phone or the fastest car and then they renounce at the life…

We share our compartment with three Spanish girls, Medicine students at University of Madrid, they are doing the inter rail with three fake tickets…

[Luca]: "We have passed from the third world of Macedonia to the little Switzerland of Croatia… how could they stay all together before?

It was a madness to make all these people, so different from each other, live under the same flag… in fact, in the end, the bomb exploded!

17 hours in the train have flown soon away also thanks to three more Medicine students from Croatia: Ivan, Iva and Silva, talking about everything from the former Jugoslavia to the alcohol, from the assisted fecundation to the women"…

Now we are in a nice hostel in the center of Zagreb, I love hostel life, here they all seem old friends...

we are friends even just because we stay in the same place…
