19 march Te Anau (NEW ZEALAND)

Midford Sound: defined by Kipling as the eighth wonder of the world!

We have boarded on a ship with three floors and despite the clouds and drizzle, we started to enjoy the jagged fjords at Midford Sound.
Those fjords seen from so close looked majestic, as a huge and severe man that looked seriously from the high...
Bruno tells that the clouds from the Sea of Tasman, arrived here are almost trapped by the peaks and they always generate thousands of waterfalls everywhere...
Sometimes we also pass by a large rock populated by seals, which rolls or dives into the water under the amused gaze of all our crazy cameras...

The boys went to visit some caves inhabited by the so-called "glow worms", the fluorescent worms .. I prefer to tidy up my backpack and rest a bit...

In all these days spent here I could see how nature can flourish in all its aspects in a strip of 1200 km... Glaciers, hills, rivers, lakes, mountains, volcanoes, geysers, forests, woods...

20 march Dunedin (NEW ZEALAND)

We cut the island off coast to coast from west to east to Dunedine.
We start this day right away with a good "rhythm" in search of a blacksmith that break the bolt of the suitcase of poor Pina... We do not know how but the key had suddenly stopped working...
Solved the problem, many hours in car later, hundreds of pasture later finally we arrive in the Scottish Dunedine!

By now it's part of our everyday life to prepare and undo backpacks, check-in and check-out, hostels and lodges all the times: - "now double, triple or quadruple?
My stuff have found the right places inside the backpack, like a puzzle automatically match their places... We are used to stay many hours in the car, the "pee stop", the "coffee break", the look-out for photographs, the tables around, we have invented and tested many games to spend in the best way our time in the car, we told our stories, our experiences, our travels, our projects of the future, in short: we have known each other... So nine unknown turned into nine friends!

Our goal is Portobello, we expect the meeting with the Penguins "yellow eyes".
The nice old Dave tells us that there are many species of penguins in the world and that many live in these parts... We saw some of them yesterday during the cruise at Midford Sound. In this kind of farm they have created a real hospital for these "elegant" (for the smoking) animals...
There is a rehabilitation ward (for the injured by sharks or seals), paediatrics (for malnourished children) and so on.
We follow Dave long tour through small trenches built to as close as possible without disturbing them.

I was struck by the harmony of seals, penguins, sheep and gulls; all lived together in total harmony... Dave adds: "Every now and then some sheep get too close to penguins, but they need just a beaking that immediately returned to their seats!"

In the evening, in the frantic Dunedin, with Mimmo, Bruno and Paolino we stop in the center to drink a beer while we began to draw our conclusions of this intense trip and the local youth stroll between a pub and the other...

21 march Christchurch (NEW ZEALAND)

Today is my dad's birthday: happy birthday!!!!

Last long transfer today, destination: Christchurch.
At Moeraki Boulders, on the advice of a German girl met at Tongariro we stop to admire the large ball-shaped rocks that lay on the beach, such as large balls thrown by a giant...
There are many Maori legends about the origin of these huge balls weighing many tons... Science explains the phenomenon of erosion by wind and water. Yet another spectacle of nature...

Next step: Oamaru. Very funny the road - signals that called your attention to the movement of the penguins... and A few later here's an infinite colony of blue penguins, all crowded into a large crowd from the stage...
At Christchurch we take advantage for the last shopping and to admire the old town full of British colleges and colonial buildings. We behave as tourists on board the "City tram tour"....

Lodging at the famous "YMCA", and after many spartans hostels, here is a proper hotel... Comfort, clean towels and sheets, bath room, I was not accustomed to such "luxury" and I confess that I neither missed it...

While I was relaxing in the shower, I kept on thinking about the thousand different places where I have slept in all these long and interesting days and I already feel some nostalgia...

While I'm liying down in this comfortable bed I think about the hostel of yesterday in Auckland... Yesterday? No! It was 21 days ago! The time has flown!

[Pina Schiattarella from Naples, Italy]: "New Zealand: a journey to feed our senses of new colors, smells, tastes... A trip to feed of new friends..."

THANKS NEW ZEALAND

22 march Seoul (SOUTH KOREA)

It's 3:56 am... Everybody are sleeping all around me...
My stomach, my physical, my mind is completely spoiled by now...

What time is it? Is it 'morning, afternoon or evening? And what day? In Italy it is March 21 or 22? And here?

This morning at dawn we left our hostel, our cars, Christchurch.... With a Qantas flight we returned to Auckland. It all starts there and everything ends there...
During the flight, Bruno deep in thought reflected: 'It is unbelievable, in an hour and a half, we covered what we did in three weeks... "!
In Auckland slowly we start to "switch". Just in the waiting room of the airport, while waiting for our flight, the Western people are seldom... Around us people with almond-eyed (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), the hostess too, and even our Air (Korean Air) has almond eyes!

New Zealand is now a distant memory... We are immediately catapulted into the East, the ideogramm are everywhere, we do not understand anything anymore... even the menu is: Oriental noodles or Korean salmon with rice!
Ten long, boring and endless hours over several terrestrial paradises, from Fiji to the Cook, from Marshall to Guam... But our destination is the capital of South Korea!
I think about Seoul and the Olympics games come to my mind, the Football World Cup and the referee Moreno, the elimination against the team that hosted the event...
Landed at 20.20, we try to go as soon as we can to the city center, we are too curious to at least taste this mysterious city!

45 minutes of bus and we reach "In-Sa-Dong", the place that a Korean girl, met in Auckland, suggested us.

We have to face many difficulties in making even the simplest things or reaching the most famous spot for the total ignorance of English...

Dinner in a typical restaurant, we eat the most traditional things suggested by the waitresses and we go to search our "In-Sa-Dong."

Inevitably this city reminded me a bit of Hong Kong even if in a very small scale. I expected huge residential buildings and majestic skyscrapers but I found none of this... It's true that we have not visited a lot, but this was the initial impact!
On the other hand, between a Korean beer and Japanese sache, a pepsi and a coca-cola, we spent the evening chatting and joking...

Anyway, you can feel the courtesy and respect of the Oriental Countries... Bows to greet or take leave from us, all offered with grace and with both hands (even the bill).

Meanwhile, it's 4:25 a.m. and as many camped we are lying on the benches of the international airport of Incheon...

23 march Frankfurt (GERMANY)

Luckily, the time has gone rather quickly during the flight Frankfurt-Seoul cuddled by small personal monitors full of films, music and games...

In the German city the mythical "group of nine Italians" has to divide...
It is weird but, during the flight, I was already having many flashbacks of a thousand things done or happened in those long 21 days...
I have had a very great time, I have grown once again my life!

Unfortunate while I was writing I have received a telegram for Afghanistan... I have to leave for many months... But that's another story...
