29 february Bandar Seri Begawan (BRUNEI)

159° day

What a thrill when the ATR42 of the small airline Mas Wings has hit the ground: "We are in the small Sultanate of Brunei, this little statelet set almost like a diamond in the island of Borneo, half Malaysian and half Indonesian!" - I said to myself with excitement!

I have always had a deep respect as well as interest in these small city-states, these small nations that although courses in history have managed to maintain their identity and, more broadly, their small force.

Brunei, in particular, has always fascinated me. Probably for the many legends that revolve around its sultan, Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'Izzadin Waddaulah, considered the richest man in the world, one that flaunts its image and wealth everywhere here.
You can find it on the wonderful notes and coins, on stamps, on the giant posters in uniform now by Admiral of the Navy, Army or Air Force General or as the police chief.
It is said that for his marriage they built a Rolls Royce all in gold ...

Reached the center of the city we plunge straight into the local: we start from the Main Post Office, to the delight of my father, "Royal Regalia Museum", a fun display of all gifts received by the Sultan during the official visits of the rulers of the world; "Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque", decorated with Venetian mosaics, Tuscan marble, British windows and Saudi carpets...
